THE LELAND AWARD
“A Prestigious Award Just For Guides!”
The Leland Award recognizes professionalism in the ranks of guides in British Columbia, Yukon, Nunavut and Northwest Territories. It was first established in 2000 in memory of Leland Bradford, a talented and skilful assistant guide who died in November 1998 at the young age of 22 years.
The award is presented to a deserving assistant guide at the Annual Convention of the Guide Outfitters Association of British Columbia (GOABC). The recipient is selected from among the nominations by GOABC’s Board of Directors. The recipient will receive a special bronze sculpture from Rick Taylor of Wild World Studios and a $1,000.00 cheque from Hub International Insurance. The two runners-up also receive $750.00 each.
Who can be nominated?
Any assistant guide employed by a member of GOABC in 2010 is eligible for the Leland Award.
Who can submit nominations?
Any client of a GOABC member in 2010 can submit nominations for the Leland Award. The deadline for nominations is December 31, 2010.

A LETTER FROM THE 2010 LELAND AWARD WINNER
“I can’t thank you all enough for choosing me as this year’s Leland Award
recipient. Just to be nominated meant a lot to me. I’m truly honoured!!
Thank you, GOABC, for this beautiful bronze award and for the generous gift. It’s great that assistant guides get recognized for the work they do for the guiding industry.
Ray & Reg Collingwood, and Ron & Brenda Fleming, you have been great to work for, and I’ve enjoyed learning from you all. I can honestly say that I’ve been taught by some of the best outfitters and guides in the business. As my mentors and friends, you have given me the opportunity to guide backpack, horseback, and riverboat hunting trips in some of the wildest country there is in BC.
Hunters, thank you for continuing to hunt with us year after year. You are the creators of great hunting trips and fun memories and I cherish all of them. Over the last ten years we have stalked up on bands of rams, called in moose, been chased by grizzlies and everything in between. There’s something very special about watching someone harvest their dream animal and then jump up and down with excitement, sometimes in tears because of what they have just accomplished.
Thank you, Danial Peyerk, for your kind words said at the GOABC Convention this year. I look forward to hunting with you all again in the upcoming seasons. In my opinion, guiding is the best job there is and I thank God for taking care of me and my family and for being my guide along the way.”
